Georgia Action for Healthy Kids

Welcome to the Georgia Team

Action for Healthy Kids is the nation’s leading nonprofit and largest volunteer network fighting childhood obesity and undernourishment by partnering with schools to improve nutrition and physical activity to help our kids learn to eat right, be active every day, and be ready to learn.

The Georgia Action for Healthy Kids Team works to engage teachers, administrators, students, and parents into helping make wellness a priority for schools across the state.  In 2008-2009, the GA Team created more opportunities for kids to get active in four schools in Fulton County, GA!  The Team also honored three schools in the state for their wellness program achievements.  From helping schools create healthy successes to recognizing schools for their efforts, the GA Team is forging ahead at reaching more schools to create healthy students and staff. 

Looking Ahead

Our goals are to: 

• Recruit active volunteers across the state to help create healthy schools for our children. 
• Continue recognizing Georgia schools for their work on school wellness policies.
• Train schools on using Fuel Up to Play 60 to increase awareness of wellness programs in schools.
• Educate students on healthy living and how to make changes in their school to impact health. 
• Host a first ever Healthy Schools Summit with partners from across the state.

In Georgia, there are lots of ways to get involved to help create healthy schools and kids.  Please consider joining us at our upcoming events. 

• Georgia School Wellness Summit – “School Wellness: The Cornerstone of Academic Achievement” – March 12-13, 2010 in Athens, GA.
