Georgia Action for Healthy Kids
Welcome to the Georgia State Team Page! Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is a national non-profit organization supporting school wellness through physical activity and nutrition programs in schools in every state. AFHK supports the nation’s largest volunteer network focusing on school wellness Specifically, AFHK fights childhood obesity and undernourishment by partnering with schools to improve nutrition and physical activity to help our kids learn to eat right, be active every day, and be ready to learn. Our vision is that all kids develop the lifelong habits necessary to promote health and learning. The Georgia AFHK State Team serves as an inter-agency collaborative that works to exchange information; share resources; and enhance represented organization's capacity to achieve increased school wellness programs and services for Georgia students. In 2011-2012, the GA Team created more opportunities for kids to get active and provided resources to school wellness teams! Looking Ahead During the 2012-2013 school year, the GA AFHK State Team activities will include:
Get Involved! There are many opportunities to get involved with Action for Healthy Kids in Georgia--from becoming a team member, to attending Action for Healthy Kids’ events, to making a financial contribution--you can help create a safer environment for our kids! If you feel compelled to lend your voice to one of most important issues of our time, and would like to take that first step towards creating a healthier environment for our kids, join the Action for Healthy Kids community by taking the Every Kid Healthy Pledge on the left-hand side of the page. State Events and News Get in the Action! Schools are encouraged to coordinate "Get in the Action" events during Every Kid Healthy Week April 22-26, 2013.
Get in the Action events are perfect opportunties for schools, communities, parents, and students to implement community service events that benefit neighborhood schools and students. From renovating school play grounds, painting healthy murals on schools, working in the school garden, or providing taste tests; schools nationwide have taken advantage of hosting Get in the Action events to bring together school members, parents, families, and community members to roll-up their sleeves and get involved to promote and showcase their school wellness programs. Action for Healthy Kids has a toolkit available to help you plan your "Get in the Action" Event here: http://www.actionforhealthykids.org/get-in-the-action/tool-kit.html. Email your plans, events, AND pictures to asharpe@actionforhealthykids.org. We want to showcase you, your school and Georgia's efforts! |
