Who Are We?

Action for Healthy Kids is the nation’s leading non-profit and largest volunteer network fighting childhood obesity and undernourishment by partnering with schools to improve nutrition and physical activity to help our kids learn to eat right, be active every day, and be ready to learn.

The Massachusetts Action for Healthy Kids Team is a cohesive and active coalition with ambitious goals to improve school nutrition and physical activity. Comprised of nutrition and health professionals, community and education leaders, the work of the Massachusetts team is comprehensive and diverse with projects engaging school nutrition staff, physical educators, nurses and other school staff, legislators, students and parents.

Our state team's objectives for 2012 - 2013 are to:

  • Enhance communication with Massachusetts team members through newsletters and participation in Massachusetts Action for Healthy Kids subcommittees.
  • Engage parents as advocates for healthy schools to increase physical activity in school and after school.
  • Share resources to create health-promoting schools and support school wellness policies, including the monitoring and evaluation of wellness policies.
  • Promote school breakfast programs to enhance student wellness.

Looking Ahead

Our goals are to:

  • Recruit active volunteers across the state to help create healthy schools for our children.
  • Educate parents on healthy living and how to make changes in their children’s school that impact health.
  • Recruit community members as change agents for health in their school communities.
