Montana Action for Healthy Kids

Team Mission

The Montana Action for Healthy Kids Team is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of our children in schools and communities through nutrition and physical activity where children learn, participate in, and enjoy healthy lifestyle behaviors.

Local Montana Action for Healthy Kids Teams include:

  • Billings AFHK is focusing on food security/hunger prevention
  • Great Falls AFHK is trying to reach children and families of their community to engage them in healthy lifestyles, with a focus on nutrition and physical activity. The Great Falls Team is working towards this goal by planning to hold an Iron Chef Competition which will involve a competition between culinary classes in the high schools. The students will be in charge of coming up with nutritious meals for the school lunch program and will showcase their meals in a food show where their meals will be judged by a panel and taste tested by middle school and elementary students. The team is also addressing physical fitness by supporting a local “Come Out and Play” organization that will be doing sports and exercise camps with local
students. Furthermore, the team is gearing up to help support their schools in using Fuel up to Play 60.
  • Helena AFHK is putting a great effort towards healthy/local fundraising with the objective of creating a fundraiser that is turn-key and can be used by any school or community
group. A future goal is to apply the same system to Fun-a-Thons. The Helena Team is also pushing for healthy vending machines in the High Schools and is hoping to strengthen their school gardening and orchard planting by finding funding for these projects.
  • Missoula AFHK is working with Hellgate Elementary School District and the Missoula Community on a variety of school wellness topics.
