New Mexico Action for Healthy Kids

Welcome to the New Mexico Team

Action for Healthy Kids is the nation’s leading nonprofit and largest volunteer network fighting childhood obesity and undernourishment by partnering with schools to improve nutrition and physical activity to help our kids learn to eat right, be active every day, and be ready to learn.

The New Mexico Action for Healthy Kids comes off successful participation in the Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge Demonstration Project where four schools created momentum for school wellness initiatives by providing nutrition and fitness challenges before, during, and after school!   

Looking Ahead

Our goals are to: 

• Train schools on using Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge as an effective and successful tool to implement school wellness initiatives and policies.
• Educate parents on healthy living and how to make changes in their child’s school that impact health. 

Get Involved

There are many opportunities to get involved with Action for Healthy Kids in your state in support of efforts to create healthy schools and kids. From becoming a Team member, to attending Action for Healthy Kids’ events, to signing on as an advocate, to making a financial contribution, consider joining our Team to determine ways to use your skills to create healthy schools and children!

Resources from New Mexico Action for Healthy Kids 

• Physical Activity & Nutrition Resource Kit for NM Schools & Communities - The New Mexico Healthier Weight Council (HWC) Education Systems Advisory Group is pleased to announce the release of this new tool.  This resource kit was developed by a collaborative group of public and private partners working together to improve the health and quality of life for New Mexicans. 
• New Mexico Wellness Toolkit Part II: Physical Education & Activity - This toolkit was written to help schools provide opportunities for increased physical activity, and promote quality physical education.
• New Mexico Wellness Toolkit Part I: Nutrition - This toolkit was written to help schools provide healthier foods to students and staff. It targets venues within an individual school's control, but outside of federally regulated nutrition programs.
