Washington Action for Healthy Kids

Welcome to the Washington Team

Action for Healthy Kids is the nation’s leading nonprofit and largest volunteer network fighting childhood obesity and undernourishment by partnering with schools to improve nutrition and physical activity to help our kids learn to eat right, be active every day and be ready to learn.

The Washington Action for Healthy Kids Team is dedicated to improving the health and educational performance of children through quality nutrition and physical education/activity in schools. A unique strength of our Team is the ability to work in partnership with existing efforts and programs while introducing field-tested strategies to improve the school health environment.

Looking Ahead

Our goals are to:

  • Educate students on healthy living and how to make changes in their school to impact health.
  • Train schools on using Fuel Up to Play 60 to increase awareness of wellness programs in schools.
  • Recruit active volunteers across the state to help create healthy schools for our children.

Get Involved

There are many opportunities to get involved with Action for Healthy Kids in your state in support of efforts to create healthy schools and kids. From becoming a Team member, to attending Action for Healthy Kids’ events, to signing on as an advocate, to making a financial contribution, consider joining our Team to determine ways to use your skills to create healthy schools and children!

Resources from Washington Action for Healthy Kids

  • Breakfast = Achievement - A fact sheet about breakfast with ideas on how to make it happen in schools.
  • Recess Before Lunch - A fact sheet about the benefits of having recess before lunch.
  • Show Me the Money: A Guide to Selling Healthy Foods at School - This guide uses the lessons learned from implementing the seven revenue replacement workshops. The primary goal of the workshops was to provide participants with the tools and resources needed to develop their district's strategy for fundraising by offering healthy food and non-food options. A secondary goal was to reduce each participant's concern of revenue loss as districts transition to using healthier foods and non-food items for school fundraising.
