About the Action Awards

How are schools selected for an Action Award?
All Nebraska schools are eligible to apply for the awards each year. (Check back in early 2011 for next year’s application.) Schools submitted an online application to be considered for the Action Awards in early March. The applications were electronically scored and reviewed by an interdisciplinary group of NE AFHK Team members. The level of the award given is based on the total application score. Awards are given in four distinctions: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention.

What is included in the award application?
To view a copy of the 2009-2010 award application click here. The application is comprehensive and gathers information on school and community wellness activities; nutrition services and nutrition education; physical education and physical activity; and community involvement. The on-line application included a comprehensive survey, program description, and a copy of the school wellness policy.

Who develops the awards application?
An interdisciplinary group from the NE Action for Healthy Kids Team, including health professionals, school officials, state leaders, and others, developed the on-line application to reflect national school wellness standards and best practices.

How can my school apply next year?
The application for next year will be available online in early 2011. Schools are encouraged to apply every year even if they are past award winners. Questions about the Action Awards, contact Audra at: alosey2@unl.edu.
